IITB-Monash Research Academy, India

Monash University has partnered with The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) to create the IITB-Monash Research Academy in north-eastern Mumbai, India.

The Academy works with industry partners to advance the pace and intensity of applied research. We provide an innovative platform that enhances and enriches current science and technology collaborations between India and Australia. We are an independent, autonomous and not-for-profit joint-venture partnership.

We conduct research through our PhD program. Our expertise includes petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, automotive, infrastructure, biotechnology, life sciences, IT and financial markets.

Our research projects centre around six major themes:

  • Advanced computational engineering, simulation and manufacture
  • Infrastructure engineering
  • Biotechnology and stem-cell research
  • Clean energy
  • Water
  • Nanotechnology

The Academy aims to:

  • create a generation of clever, talented research scholars who will engage in collaborative research of Indian, Australian and international significance
  • expose India’s best students to international research facilities and practices and allow them to engage with Australian and Indian industry
  • attract industry to engage with academia as partners.

Students receive:

  • a dual degree from both institutions
  • supervision from both IITB and Monash academics
  • access to the full range of facilities at both institutions.
